There is a burning need to track and monitor the most mobile asset in a fleet ‘The Tire’. As the fleet size increases the problem of keeping track of the tyres worsen. In spite of genuine effort from the fleet operator, still the concern about the security of the tires is always haunting the transporter. Also as tires constitutes to the 2nd highest component of cost in the total cost incurred in running the vehicle, it is equally important to get the maximum running and maximum life’s (multiple remoulds) from the tires.
The only solution for control on your tires and optimum utilization of the tire, it is required to monitor the tire on regular basis.
A solution has been designed by using RFID tags to address all the challenges faced in recording the tyre details from the vehicle. With the help of RFID tags identification of the tyres is very quick, accurate and without data recorders interference as the data is recorded electronically. Also with a simple interface between the RFID reader and the software the data is posted directly into the software application, thus reduces the effort of entering the data into the system.
Application of RFID Tags in Tyre Monitoring
1.The RFID Tyre Tag (RFID-TT) has to be fitted on the inner sidewall of the tyre. The fitment process is similar to fitment of rubber patch in case of a tyre puncture.
2.One RFID-TT has to be inserted /fitted in one tyre. The tag can be fitted on any sidewall of the tyre.
3.Once the tyre is completely assembled, the RFID reader is moved around the tyre’s outer surface. As soon as the tag fitted comes in the range of the reader, the reader reads the encoded value on the tag.
4.The Handheld reader (or reader connected to the tablet through Bluetooth) displays the tyre details on the screen.
5.The operator records the air pressure, thread depth (not mandatory) against the identified tyre tag and Saves the record.
6.On saving the data is pushed to the application via GPRS to the main database.
In case if the GPRS connectivity is not available at the time of recording the data, the data is stored in the device and send later. Thus recording of data is independent of the GPRS connectivity.

5. A regular audit of the tyres on the vehicles ensures low possibility of theft of tyres.
6. As the tyres are identified electronically any missing tyres is highlighted immediately.
